On Wednesday 17th February 2016, Mr Ronnie Sammut from the Malta Chess Federation visited Mariam Albatool School with the objective of exploring new avenues for cooperation between the Maltese Federation and Mariam Albatool School. The visit was organized by Mr Brian Vassallo (Assistant Head of School) with the close collaboration of Mr Dylan Sultana. Mr Sammut was greeted by the Head of School who gave him a brief introduction about the school and its functions. Then Mr Sammut was invited to interact with students who have been introduced to chess earlier on last year. Mr Sammut made use of a chess program and the interactive whiteboard to deliver an informative and interesting presentation of the history of chess and also the various opportunities which are currently available for both students and adults.

The session was attended by Mr Vassallo (Assistant Head), Mr Dylan Sultana (English Teacher and chess club coordinator) and Dr Adel Radwan (Chemistry teacher). These two teachers were invited by Mr Sammut for additional lectures in chess so that they would be able to pass on this knowledge and skills onto the students. Most students who took the opportunity to ask numerous questions ranging from explanation of moves to various rating systems.

The school administration would like to thank Mr Ronnie Sammut for sharing his precious time with our students.
