Today, our school was visited by Mr Stephen Cachia (Director General) and Ms Jane Farrugia Buhagiar (EO Migrant Learning). The Head of School, Mr Kenneth Busuttil welcomed the visitors in his office and together with the SMT discussed a number of important issues concerning the school and its future development.
Later, the visitors were toured around the classrooms where they heaped praise at the high level of organisation and conducive learning environment of the school. They also praised the efforts of teachers and learning suppoort educators and urged them to keep up the excellent job.
Later they visited our migrant class and commented positively on the effective incluision of migrant learners. Mr Cachia and Ms Farrugia Buhagiar thanked the school administration for their sustained efforts towards high quality teaching and learning. They also iterated their support and commitment towards future collaboration.
The school administration would like to thank Mr Cachia and Ms Farrugia Buhagiar for their visit and for pledging extended support and copperation.
we had two special guests at school. We had the pleasure of having Mr Natalino
Cristiano and his dog, Glen, for a visit. Mr Cristiano is blind and Glen is his
guide-dog. Mr Cristiano gave an interesting and informative talk to the
children about his experiences and about the importance and the work of his
guide-dog. He spoke about the special training guide-dogs must do in order to
be the ‘eyes’ of their owners. He also explained how we, the general public,
need to react if we come across a guide-dog and its owner walking in the
street. The rule is to NEVER touch
the dog because the guide-dog is on duty doing its work!! Touching the dog
might distract it from doing its job properly and the owner might get hurt. For
this reason the children were not
allowed to touch the guide-dog. The children were very interested with what
they learnt and Mr Cristiano expertly answered many of their questions. To
conclude the session Mr Cristiano and Glen demonstrated how they cross the
street and how to get up and down the pavement. We were all impressed by the
performance!! Special thanks also go to Mrs Cristiano who drove Mr Cristiano
and Glen to school.
This event was planned to link to Science since we are currently exploring the Five Senses (Sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch). It also links to Maths as we have talked about Directions (left, right, forward). And finally, it links to PSD (Personal and Social Development) during which we learn to respect everyone, even people who are ‘different’. Today’s event was definitely an enriching experience for all of us!!

Bħala għalliema tas-sitt sena, jiena għamilt attivita’ fejn estendejt it-taħriġ il-fehem li nagħmlu kull ġimgħa u għaqqadtha mal-kitba kreattiva. Din il-ġimgħa bdejna nitkellmu dwar l-annimali, kemm dawk domestiċi u oħrajn li jgħixu ġo foresta. It-tfal kellhom silta fuq hekk u wara kellhom jirrispondu xi mistoqsijiet ukoll. Wara li qrajna u ddiskutejna s-silta u l-mistoqsijiet flimkien, infurmajt lit-tfal li waqt il-lezzjoni tal-kitba, huma kienu se jiktbu djalogu. Jiena stajt nagħżel titlu li rrid imma biex inkompli nqajjem interess fit-tfal u nara kem veru fehmu is-silta dwar l-annimali għidtilhom li d-djalogu li kienu se jiktbu kien se jkun djalogu bejn żewġ annimali. It-tfal għamlu dan id-djalogu mingħajr ebda’ diffikulta. Jiena stajt ninnota li huma ħadu xi idejat li konnha ltqajna magħhom fis-silta tat-taħriġ il-fehem. Għaldaqstant jiena stajt nikkonkludi li t-tfal fiehmu is-silta dwar l-annimali.
L-istess tfal ħarġu b’idea li nagħmlu mima ta’ dan id-djalogu. Intużaw il-maskri tal-annimali wkollu l-lezzjoni kienet tassew interessanti. It-tfal kollha pparteċipaw u għamlu sforz kbir biex id-djalogu u l-mima jkunu oriġinali.
As part of the Culture Pass Scheme, a story animator from “Curious and Courageous- Lingnin Stories” produced a performance for years 1, 2 and 3 at our school. These activity sessions encourage reading and promote language and creative thinking.
The story was about the stone statue which in the story wakes up during the night. This statue dates back from the Neolithic period in Malta and it was found in the Hal Saflieni hypogeum. It symbolises the eternal sleep. It is now found in the National Archeology museum in Valletta. With the culture card given to your child last year they can visit it for free. This visit might come in handy for future history lessons your child might be having. Below is a link about this statue. You should ask them about this story…..
Indian Paper Art at Mariam Albatool School Yesterday at Mariam Albatool School a talented Indian artist by the name of Mr Ram has visitied Mariam Albatool School to deliver a performance in paper art making. Paper craft is the collection of art forms employing paper or card as the primary artistic medium for the creation of one, two or three-dimensional objects. Paper and card stock are the most widely used material in arts and crafts. He constructed a number of beautiful crafts which delighted the children who were enthusiatic to participate along with the artist. Mr Ram will be at Mariam Albatool School today to share his talents again with the parents attending Parents’ Day. A big well done to Mr Ram and the students!
This week the children of Yr 1 learnt about the letter sound ‘o’. Our theme this month is about Animals and the animal we discussed this week was the octopus. We watched videos and learnt that an octopus has 3 hearts and it also has blue blood!! Octopuses come in different sizes and can change colours to hide away and not get eaten. The children learnt several new words that begin with the letter sound ‘o’. In Crafts we worked on our Octopus Project made out of coloured paper and paper plates. When doing this project the children learnt to listen carefully and to follow instructions. This is very important because the children will learn to pay attention and so they know what to do. This makes them responsible for their learning and independent too. Using the paint brushes, the scissors and glitter glues helps the children to have stronger muscles in their fingers. Strong muscles helps them when they write. The children were very much engaged in the activity as you can see from the photos that are attached. They were very focused on their work and all of them finished their task really well. They are very proud of their work which we displayed in class 🙂 Kindly share photos with your children ….they truly deserve to be praised!!!
