On 24th April 2017, Form 2 and Form3 students went to San Anton Palace to celebrate the World Book Day. The trip was organised by their teachers Ms Aslihan Arikan Zammit, Ms Elaine Falzon and Ms Christine Refalo to promote a reading culture and as a follow up of Read and Tell project in Form 3.
Before entering the magical Secret Garden, we toured the palace where we were taken to visit the library dedicated to Anton Buttigieg, the second president of Malta and a Maltese poet. The students were given a brief talk about the library and listened to a poem by Mr. Buttigieg.
The activity continued in the secret garden at San Anton Palace where students of all ages from different schools gathered to read books and listen to stories in the open air. We were met by our host Mr Damjan Attard who has been working in the NGO segment. He welcomed our group where all the students sat on grass and listened to his captivating stories of his travels to different parts of the world.
We finally ended our day having some refreshments and an ice cream at the President’s Kitchen Garden. World Book Day is designated by UNESCO and annually celebrated on 23rd April, the day both William Shakespeare and Cervantes, the famous Spanish writer of Don Quixote, died.
