Fun fact: This book is the product of a school, as the author, illustrator, publisher and pagesetter are all from Mariam Albatool School! Dinja Wahda Project – Qniefed (Hedgehogs)

In the classroom we took part in the project “DINJA WAHDA” for a second time. Here students are seen learning about hedgehogs and how we can conserve and take care of them through a power point. After this, they put their minds and hands to work. They designed a promise card, that says that they promise to take care of the hedgehogs. They also designed a hedgehog badge to put in their parent’s car. This will remind the driver to drive slow in case a hedgehog is crossing the road.


Practicing gratitude

At Mariam Albatool School Paola, we thought of using friendship cards as springboard to practice GRATITUDE. Our year 3 class carefully guided by Roseanne Dimech and myself assisted our students into understanding what gratitude is. First we spoke about gratitude and what it means to be grateful. We asked students: “What does gratitude mean? What does it mean to be grateful?” They friendship card FEELING GRATEFUL was used to help reinforce feelings of GRATITUDE in the classroom. Then the students filled and coloured a worksheet.Then, they practiced gratitude by coming in class one by one and received a hearty welcome from their peers, for example “Hello Ahmed, welcome to our classroom”.Then, the students were asked to share and explain a strategy for feeling happy and to reflect on all of the things they are grateful for. After a period of time reflecting on the activity students were asked to write and draw activities of which they feel grateful for. Students were the assessed for their understanding of interdependence between different concepts related to gratitude through the “web of life” drawing. The lesson ended by motivating the students to draw a token of gratitude fora buddy (or someone who they think deserves gratitude). A very big WELL Done to our year 3 Class.+34

Please be advised that come Friday and all Fridays thereafter and  until the corona pandemic remain, the school will end at 1200hrs instead of 1245hrs.

As you all know our school differs from other schools, being that it is not only a school but also an Islamic Centre and mosque. Due to the social distance requirements, areas within the school, may be used for prayers. Due to the fact that many carriers are asymptomatic and until the danger of contagion disappears we will be releasing the children earlier in order that we limit the chances of them and parents from coming into contact with people attending the mosque for Friday prayers.

This will take effect from Friday 5th February.

Dear Parents,

First allow us to thank all those who continuously show support and understanding as we, as school and community, respond to the unexpected invasion of COVID-19. We are proud of the way most of our students, parents, employees and community leaders handled the demands we are faced with to protect everyone as we continue to educate our students during the most unusual of circumstances.However new concerns and worries arise. May we bring to your attention that it has come to our knowledge that some of our students, irrespective of the guidelines issued by the Maltese health authorities to limit travel to essential travel only, travelled abroad during the winter break. Following this update, a link to guidelines on restrictions and safe travel was posted in all class fb pages during the holidays. May we kindly ask all those who travelled or have spent time with relatives who have recently travelled to come forward in order that we may explain procedures to be taken depending on the country they visited or travelled from. Also, it would be greatly appreciated if we are informed beforehand when you or any member of your family need to travel. Your commitment and positivity is our key to success. Together we must be proactive and prepared during these ever-changing times in order that we may continue to educate our children. Let us together try to continue school as normal with enhanced safety precautions, in order to possibly prevent the transition to a hybrid or full distance learning.

Last but not least kindly be advised that sometimes should there be a cause of concern the authorities may request that you present your passport for verification of travel. In any case, your sincerity is our main tool. Our goal is to find the best way to have our students and staff as safe as possible to ensure the health and well-being of all.Thank you for your continued cooperation as we strive to do what is best for ALL of our students and employees during these challenging times.
